The companies received a €6 million grant for a new energy center and hydrogen station in Twente.
The development of Twente’s first hydrogen refueling station is moving forward with more than €6 million in funding awarded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The project is being led by Hydronex and Fieten Olie as part of the SWIM-consortium, marking a major step toward advancing the region’s sustainable mobility infrastructure.
Hydronex prepared and submitted the funding application on behalf of the consortium and will supply locally produced green hydrogen by the end of 2027.
“The arrival of the first hydrogen station in Twente gives the hydrogen ecosystem a major boost,” said Jasper Heutinck, Energy and Hydrogen Project Manager at Hydronex. “By connecting locally produced green hydrogen, we are taking an important step toward sustainable mobility and the development of Energiehub Twente.”
Fieten Olie will begin construction of the hydrogen station in the second half of 2026. The facility will offer conventional fuels, green hydrogen and charging points for both passenger vehicles and heavy trucks. Located near the N36, with direct connections to the A35 and A1 motorways, the site is strategically positioned in one of the Netherlands’ top logistics regions.
The hydrogen station will be built next to a 5 MW electrolyser that will produce renewable hydrogen. Together, the facilities will form Energiehub Twente, an integrated hub connecting production, storage, distribution, and use of renewable energy.
