Countrywide Hydrogen has secured an $8 million funding deal in green hydrogen production and supply with the Tasmanian Government.
The Tasmanian Government said in a statement that this deal makes Countrywide Hydrogen the first major green hydrogen producer in the state.
The funding is part of the Tasmanian Government’s Green Hydrogen Price Reduction Scheme, aimed at stimulating the hydrogen sector in Tasmania.
The scheme is a key component of the government’s vision to position Tasmania as a leader in green hydrogen production.
Countrywide Hydrogen plans to produce hydrogen at various locations across the state, catering to a diverse range of users. The initial focus will be on the heavy transport sector and potential industrial applications, with all hydrogen produced to be sold within the local Tasmanian market.
The agreement is expected to inject more than $60 million into the state over the next three years as part of the Countrywide Project. This investment will benefit regional and local economies and communities.
The first phase of Countrywide’s plan involves constructing a hydrogen production and heavy vehicle refuelling facility at the industrial hub in Brighton.
The facility is expected to produce up to 800 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen.
Once established, Countrywide plans to expand production and refuelling facilities into the north and north-west of the state, servicing major road freight routes in Tasmania with a reliable hydrogen supply.
The scheme is designed to stimulate both supply and demand for renewable hydrogen.
Countrywide will receive funding on a per kilogram basis of green hydrogen sold to end-users, covering the gap between the cost to produce the green hydrogen and what end-users are able to pay.
This approach aims to ensure a stable sale price for green hydrogen, providing more stability for end-users and advancing renewable energy objectives.
