Green Hydrogen Struck With Setbacks in Europe

Europe is struggling to build up a sizable green hydrogen sector — and by association an electrolyzer manufacturing base — mainly due to the high electricity costs in the bloc and a lack of big offtakers willing to procure large volumes over long periods. While proponents of green hydrogen are upbeat about its future, seeing the molecule or its ammonia derivative as a part of the energy transition and a way to regain some trade competitiveness versus China, there are numerous doubters who fear the European electrolyzer sector will struggle to expand and may buckle under pressure from cheaper electrolyzers made in China.
