New Delhi: In a major step toward scaling up clean energy infrastructure, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) organized a national workshop focused on strengthening the National Green Hydrogen Mission through state policies, hubs, and infrastructure. The event was chaired by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi.
MNRE Secretary Shri Santosh Sarangi graced the occasion drawing active participation from state government representatives, industry leaders, and key sector stakeholders.
The workshop was organized as part of the celebrations marking twelve years of government leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the country’s rapid clean energy transition. Discussions centered on the vital role state governments play in converting high-level policy frameworks into tangible local projects, attracting investments, and creating operational industrial ecosystems.
During the event, Union Minister Shri Joshi announced the formal approval of the first batch of nine startups selected under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. These startups are being supported with an initial allocation of 22 crore rupees, which forms part of a larger 100 crore rupees dedicated startup support programme aimed at fostering domestic technology and innovation.
In tandem with the startup funding, the Union Minister launched the Green Hydrogen Certification Portal. This new digital platform is designed to streamline and manage the entire certification process across the country, enhancing transparency and ensuring regulatory compliance under the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasized that the mission ultimately aims to establish five million metric tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity, supported by 125 gigawatts of dedicated renewable energy capacity. This overarching strategy is projected to catalyze investments exceeding eight lakh crore rupees, create over six lakh jobs, and significantly reduce annual carbon emissions.
