Recently, the Green Hydrogen Certification Portal of India (GHCI) was launched by the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy during a national workshop on the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

  • The Green Hydrogen Certification Portal, developed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), will support transparent certification and regulatory compliance under the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India.

National Green Hydrogen Mission

  • About: Launched in 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) aims to position India as a global leader in clean hydrogen while enhancing industrial competitiveness, reducing fossil fuel imports, and promoting long-term energy security, sustainability, and self-reliance.
  • Mission Components: It is based on three pillars—demand creation (domestic and export markets), supply-side incentives (production and electrolyser manufacturing), and enabling ecosystem development (infrastructure, R&D, and policy support).
  • Targets & Economic Impact: By 2030, the mission aims for 5 MMT of green hydrogen production, supported by 125 GW of renewable energy capacity, attracting ₹8 lakh crore in investment, reducing emissions by 50 MMT CO₂ annually, and boosting energy independence.
  • Key Initiatives & Framework: It includes schemes like the SIGHT Programmedevelopment of standards and certification systems, R&D roadmap, and financial incentives for electrolyser manufacturing and hydrogen production.
  • State-Level Policy Adoption: As part of the NGHM6 States have notified dedicated hydrogen policies7 States have integrated hydrogen into existing energy/industrial frameworks, and 4 States are in the pipeline.
  • Significance: The mission is expected to drive decarbonisation, job creation, technological innovation, and indigenous manufacturing, while strengthening India’s energy security and global leadership in the clean energy transition.
