Gen2 Energy Secures Capacity for Mosjøen Green Hydrogen Project, Advances 195 MW Facility Targeting Maritime Decarbonisation

Gen2 Energy has secured capacity for the first phase of its green hydrogen project at Nesbruket in Mosjøen, marking a key milestone in the development of the facility. The initial phase will enable production of up to 30 tonnes of liquefied green hydrogen per day, with plans to scale operations over time to the project’s full capacity of 195 MW.

The company said the capacity reservation provides the certainty required to advance the project toward a final investment decision and the start of construction. Once operational, the facility is expected to support significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, particularly in the maritime sector, where green hydrogen can replace conventional fossil fuels.

Lena Halvari, Chief Executive Officer of Gen2 Energy, said the milestone reflects sustained and focused development efforts and will help move the Mosjøen project into its next phase. She added that the project is expected to contribute to both emission reductions and local value creation during construction and operation.

Halvari noted that large-scale availability of green hydrogen will be critical to decarbonising the maritime sector, and that the capacity reservation at Nesbruket represents an important step toward that goal.

Development work at the Nesbruket site is already underway. The project will be implemented in phases and is expected to stimulate regional economic activity, create new jobs and support further industrial development in the area.

Gen2 Energy is a hydrogen project developer with four locations along the Norwegian coast and a total project portfolio of 995 MW. The company is working to establish a full hydrogen value chain, with a primary focus on supplying the maritime sector. The successful execution of its projects could contribute significantly to emissions reductions in Norwegian shipping and support Norway’s and the European Union’s climate targets.

The company acknowledged the support of Mosjøen og Omegn Næringsselskap (MON) and Vefsn municipality, and said it looks forward to continued collaboration with local stakeholders, including Linea and Helgeland Kraft, as the project moves toward implementation.
