First electrolyser module arrives at Petrobrazi

An electrolyser module for producing green hydrogen has arrived at OMV Petrom’s Petrobrazi refinery in Romania, where it will be installed and connected to the power grid. This marks an important milestone in the construction of the new unit, which will enable the production of sustainable fuels, including SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) and HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil, or renewable diesel).

For the 20-megawatt (MW) facility, three additional modules will be delivered. The equipment is being supplied by Neuman & Esser, while site construction, unloading, fabrication of structural elements, and the integration of the modules are being carried out by Kraftanlagen Romania.

The green hydrogen plant will be capable of producing around 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, supporting biofuel production at Petrobrazi. The project benefits from approximately 21 million euros in non-repayable funding through the PNRR.

Construction began last year, and the start of production is planned for 2028. Together with another green hydrogen plant, the total installed capacity will be 55 MW, and the annual production will be around 8,000 tons.
