Cadiz, RIC Energy Expand Green Hydrogen Partnership with Solar MOU – News and Statistics

Cadiz, Inc. and RIC Energy have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding to build on-site solar generation at Cadiz Ranch, as announced on July 22, 2026. The pact is designed to speed up the shift of Cadiz’s farming operations to clean power and broaden the firms’ joint work on green hydrogen. The agreement also sets up a structure for studying whether dedicated hydrogen transport systems—such as pipelines and other delivery methods—can be located, permitted, and built along Cadiz’s current 220-mile Northern Pipeline corridor and other easements, with an eye toward moving hydrogen to nearby markets and other external buyers.

Building on a Prior Alliance

This new understanding extends a partnership that began in October 2024, when the two entities started working together on green hydrogen output at Cadiz Ranch. The latest step adds solar generation as the initial phase of a combined renewable energy platform. Under the terms, RIC will construct solar arrays to supply electricity for Cadiz’s agricultural activities, while both parties keep pushing forward on hydrogen production units and associated infrastructure at the ranch. The goal is for the solar and hydrogen efforts together to deliver dependable, economical, low-emission power for Cadiz’s farming operations, the Mojave Groundwater Bank, and other water initiatives in San Bernardino County.

Pipeline and Infrastructure Review

The agreement calls for a joint assessment of electrical systems, transmission lines, and other components needed to link solar output with future hydrogen manufacturing at the site. Additionally, the companies will look into the practicality of placing, permitting, and constructing dedicated hydrogen transit infrastructure, including pipelines and alternative transport options, within the existing 220-mile Northern Pipeline corridor and other rights-of-way. This planning is meant to keep viable and affordable routes open for moving hydrogen later, while also aiding the growth of water and energy projects across San Bernardino County.

Executive Perspectives

Susan Kennedy, Chair and CEO of Cadiz, stated that the collaboration with RIC shows how renewables and low-carbon fuels can support the next wave of water infrastructure. She pointed out that the firm moved away from diesel in the prior year and is pursuing cleaner options for the future. Kennedy added that this MOU allows the next phase—using on-site solar to run operations—while promoting green hydrogen as a future energy source for the Mojave Groundwater Bank and other regional water systems.

Jonathan Rappe, CEO of RIC Energy North America, remarked that the project goes beyond a standard solar-plus-storage setup. He said the two companies are crafting an integrated renewable platform that can adapt as the hydrogen market grows and can back one of California’s key water infrastructure efforts.

Recent Progress

The MOU arrives after two notable steps that put Cadiz in a position to start building the Mojave Groundwater Bank once financing is secured. In early July 2026, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management granted a new right-of-way for the 220-mile Northern Pipeline, enabling Cadiz to switch the line from natural gas to water transport. Earlier in the year, San Bernardino County and Fenner Gap Mutual Water Company established the San Bernardino Water and Power Authority to assist with funding and building regional water and energy projects.
