Bekaert, a Belgian steel wire manufacturer, announced that it planned to temporarily suspend production of electrolyzer components at its Bekintex site in Wetteren, Belgium, due to slower-than-expected global green hydrogen market expansion. This decision will affect 24 employees, who will be relocated to other sites in Belgium.
Bekaert explained that this temporary adjustment is in response to weak green hydrogen demand, but remains committed to green hydrogen as a key long-term development priority.
The facility and machinery in Wetteren will remain intact, with production set to scale up once the market recovers, in line with the company’s modular approach.
The Innovation Hub for Hydrogen in Deerlijk will remain operational and will continue the development of next-generation components for green hydrogen.
Besides, Bekaert added that facilities in Japan, China, and other locations will continue to produce and deliver PTL/electrolyzer components. Therefore, the suspension at the Belgium facility will not have a significant impact on its customers.
