Commercial green hydrogen production has started at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges’ NextGen District with the commissioning of a new 500 kW electrolyser system.
Power to Hydrogen’s installation consists of two 250 kW anion exchange membrane stacks and is now supplying hydrogen to regional gas supplier Holthausen and other customers.
The plant has initial production capacity of up to 70 tonnes of green hydrogen a year, primarily for mobility applications, with industrial users also being targeted.
The installation is operating at the port’s NextGen Demo site and represents the first commercial deployment of Power to Hydrogen’s 250 kW AEM stacks.
The system can adjust production between 10% and 100% of capacity in response to electricity availability and pricing, allowing hydrogen production to be increased when renewable electricity is cheaper.
