Andhra Pradesh bets on green hydrogen with Rs 51,000 crore MoUs, aims for ‘hydrogen valley’ status

Andhra Pradesh signed two clean energy memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth ₹51,000 crore during the Green Hydrogen Summit held at SRM University, Amaravati on Friday, 18 June.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced plans to develop the state into a “hydrogen valley” by leveraging its renewable energy potential and infrastructure.

“I have come here to learn and adopt innovations to reduce the cost of energy and go for green energy to tackle the problem of global warming,” Naidu said.

“Based on your recommendations, we will start working towards making Andhra Pradesh India’s hydrogen valley by converging technology, infrastructure, and innovation.”

The summit saw two major agreements. UK-based Yamna will establish a 1 MMTPA green ammonia project at Krishnapatnam with an investment of ₹16,000 crore. JKSH and Hynfra will invest ₹35,000 crore in a project at Machilipatnam comprising 150 KTPA green hydrogen and 600 KTPA green ammonia. Together, the projects aim to create over 10,500 green jobs.

The state also adopted the Amaravati Green Hydrogen Declaration 2025, with a commitment to review progress annually.

Chief Minister Naidu said the state will develop port infrastructure every 50 km along its 1,000 km coastline to support energy exports. “We want to prove that clean energy can be scalable and profitable,” he added.

Furthermore, he  outlined the state’s clean energy policy: “With a ₹10 lakh crore investment target, we have announced the Integrated Clean Energy Policy. This initiative will also generate 7.5 lakh jobs. It also aims to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen and its derivatives per annum, 3 GW capacity of electrolyser manufacturing alongside solar energy, wind energy and pumped energy storage.”

The policy also supports solar, wind, pumped hydro storage, and port-based export infrastructure.

“No other state offers the advantages we do. If anyone is offering better, tell us and we will upgrade,” he said.
