Andhra Pradesh is aiming at producing 1.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually apart from manufacturing five gigawatts of electrolyzers by 2029. 

The research and development efforts are also underway to bring down the cost of hydrogen gas from ₹460 to ₹160 per kilogram, according to a Green Hydrogen Valley – Amaravati Declaration released by the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati on Monday. 

Infrastructure will be established to support the distribution of 25 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2029. The declaration envisions developing a dedicated Green Energy Corridor and an ₹500 crore has been earmarked for innovation and research in the sector. It also committed support to 50 start-ups engaged in green hydrogen development.

The declaration outlines a strategic action plan to transform Andhra Pradesh into a Green Hydrogen Valley by the year 2030. The declaration and its modalities were hammered at a two-day summit on green hydrogen held in SRM university in Amaravati last week by industry captains and experts in the presence of the Chief Minister. 

Key discussions

Drawing on the key discussions held during the summit, the State government had announced the Green Hydrogen Declaration the fine-print of which was released today. 

The declaration aims to establish clear policies for clean energy production and green hydrogen manufacturing and seeks to create conducive conditions for the growth of green hydrogen production within the State.   A core objective of the declaration is to develop the largest green hydrogen ecosystem in the country, right in Andhra Pradesh.
