Larsen & Toubro (L&T), through its Renewables (RENU) division, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ACWA Power to collaborate on the Renewables and Grid components of the Yanbu Green Ammonia Project in Saudi Arabia. This groundbreaking initiative, known as the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub, is designed to be a fully integrated facility powered entirely by renewable energy sources, primarily solar and wind.
The Renewables and Grid scope of the project will include the development of Solar PV and Wind farms, along with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), substations, and transmission lines. The MOU establishes a framework for L&T and ACWA Power to jointly design the optimal configuration for the project, with a focus on achieving high performance and meeting critical sustainability targets. Upon final proposal acceptance, L&T will proceed to formalize the collaboration with an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract. This partnership leverages L&T’s expertise in EPC, ensuring the seamless integration of various renewable energy technologies while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance.
Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power, commented, “The fast-paced development of the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project is a testament to our commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the global energy transition. By producing and exporting green ammonia, we aim to assist international markets in their decarbonization efforts and contribute to a sustainable future.”
T Madhava Das, Member of the Board and Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at L&T, added, “Saudi Arabia is a key player in clean energy and industrial decarbonization. The Kingdom has made impressive strides thanks to visionary programs and initiatives, and with its strategic location, competitive energy production, and large-scale project development, it is poised to drive regional and global clean energy integration. This MOU with ACWA Power marks a significant step forward in our ongoing partnership and our shared mission to promote clean energy along the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor.”
