Riyadh-based Acwa has been on a striking growth trajectory in recent years, delivering some of the largest renewables and green hydrogen projects in development, with a portfolio that’s expanded rapidly at home in Saudi Arabia and abroad. Acwa, formerly known as Acwa Power, is playing a pivotal role in Saudi Arabia’s two enormous green hydrogen projects: the 3.9 gigawatt Neom project slated to produce 240,000 tons per year, which will be converted into 1.2 million tons/yr of green ammonia for export, and the 4 GW Yanbu project due to produce 400,000 tons/yr of green hydrogen, converted to 2.2 million tons/yr of green ammonia. Acwa CEO Marco Arcelli discussed his company’s strategy with Energy Intelligence’s Ronan Kavanagh in a recent interview; an edited transcript follows.
