EH2 hires former Hydrogen Council policy head as it eyes European manufacturing | Electrolysers

US PEM electrolyser firm Electric Hydrogen (EH2) has appointed the Hydrogen Council’s former head of policy as its Vice-President of Government and Corporate Relations for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Daria Nochevnik will lead EH2’s engagement with governments and regulators in the region, as the company eyes manufacturing in Europe.

She joined the Hydrogen Council in 2021, and during her tenure served as Special Advisor for Hydrogen at COP28.

“The next wave of hydrogen committed projects in Europe will be driven by symmetrical accountability between governments and industry,” Nochevnik said. “Governments must implement the incentives, mandates and carbon pricing that create the demand signal, and industry must serve that demand cost-effectively.”

EH2 has been increasing its activity in Europe in recent years, with its CEO Raffi Garabedian previously telling H2 View the continent was “the market” for green hydrogen in the near term, hinting it could invest in local manufacturing capacity.

“Bringing Daria onto our government and corporate relations team aligns with that growth and with our plan to expand manufacturing operations in Europe to serve our customers’ needs,” Garabedian said.

The firm was selected as Uniper’s exclusive electrolyser partner for its 200MW green hydrogen project in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. Its European subsidiary was also awarded €2.6m ($2.9m) from the Spanish government’s Covid recovery investment package.

Europe has become an increasingly attractive market for electrolyser firms thanks to its mandates for green hydrogen consumption in transport and industry.

However, the EU’s proposed Industrial Accelerator Act could restrict publicly supported hydrogen projects from using foreign-made electrolysers under new ‘Made in Europe’ requirements.

Founded in 2020, EH2 manufactures large-scale PEM electrolyser plants. It is currently deploying its first commercial 100MW system at US e-fuel maker Infinium’s Project Roadrunner in Texas.
