P2X Solutions has injected green hydrogen-based e-methane into the Finnish gas network, receiving what it said is the country’s “first” guarantee of origin (GO) from state-owned transmission system operator Gasgrid.
E-methane produced at P2X’s Harjavalta plant will supply European markets via the Balticonnector pipeline, which links the country to the European mainland through a subsea connection to Estonia.
It will be used in national grids, supplying domestic and commercial gas users.
P2X claimed the GO “lays the foundation for the hydrogen economy,” labelling it the only way of demonstrating the molecule’s green credentials to the market.
The company was also the first receiver of a green hydrogen GO in 2025.
E-methane has been gaining traction for its potential as a low-carbon alternative in maritime and shipping fuels and heavy industrial heating appliances, as well as commercial and domestic utilities.
Finland has particularly embraced the gas.
Espoo-based e-methane developer Ren-Gas is launching a 25MW plant in Tampere and will supply Swiss Liquefied natural gas operator Avanca Energy with the drop-in fuel under a €1bn ($1.1bn) deal.
Finnish start-up Reduciner also plans to launch e-methane production by 2027 following a €1.5m ($1.7m) investment from non-profit-owned hydrogen developer the Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof).
