Hystar and BHEL Sign Strategic Collaboration Agreement for Local PEM Electrolyser Manufacturing in India - News and Statistics

Hystar and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited have signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement aimed at enabling the phased local manufacturing of ultra-efficient PEM electrolysers based on Hystar technology for green hydrogen projects in India, according to Hydrogen Central. BHEL is described as one of India’s largest state-owned engineering and manufacturing enterprises in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

The agreement represents a significant step in Hystar’s international expansion, bringing its high-efficiency PEM electrolyser technology into one of the world’s largest emerging green hydrogen markets. By combining Hystar’s technology with BHEL’s engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities, the partnership seeks to establish a path toward cost-competitive, locally manufactured PEM electrolyser systems for the Indian market. The arrangement also positions Hystar as a preferred international technology partner to BHEL.

The agreement was signed at BHEL’s Corporate Office in New Delhi by senior representatives of both organisations. A delegation from the Royal Norwegian Embassy, led by Arvinn Eikeland Gadgil, Charge d’Affaires, was present at the signing.

India’s Green Hydrogen Ambitions

India has set ambitious targets for developing a domestic green hydrogen economy through its National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Government of India’s Make in India initiatives. These efforts are driving demand for hydrogen and electrolyser technologies while building on the country’s local manufacturing capabilities.

The partnership provides both companies with a strategic platform to help lead that growth, pairing Hystar’s patented, high-efficiency PEM technology with BHEL’s manufacturing experience and reach across India’s energy sector.

Fredrik Mowill, CEO of Hystar, commented that India will play a key role in the global transition to green hydrogen and that the collaboration with BHEL provides a clear path to deploy the company’s technology in the Indian market. He also indicated that Hystar looks forward to a long-term collaboration while building local capabilities together with BHEL.
