India tenders 54,000 tonnes of green ammonia for fertiliser plant | Ammonia

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is tendering for 54,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year to supply state-owned fertiliser firm Madhya Bharat Agro Products (MBAPL).

The tender will line up a 10-year supply agreement, providing up to 5,000 tonnes of the molecule per month for MBAPL’s plant in Dhule, Maharashtra, offering subsidies under the country’s Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) initiative.

SECI will act as a middleman, purchasing from the producer and selling onward to the procurer throughout the deal.

Supply will be incentivised with front-loaded government support spanning the first three years of production. The producer will receive INR 8.82/kg ($0.092) of ammonia in year one, INR 7.06/kg ($0.074) in year two, and INR 5.30/kg ($0.055) in year three.

It equates to a subsidy of approximately $0.52/kg of green hydrogen, a similar figure to rates the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) criticised for being too low in 2024.

The selected company must build, own, and operate production facilities itself, and begin supply within three years of inking the deal.

MBAPL is also in line for 70,000 tonnes of green ammonia from InSolare under a SIGHT tender awarded in April. While the new request for submissions does not explicitly clarify, H2 View understands the fresh procurement is in addition to the existing contracted supply.

SECI has tendered for a total of close to one million tonnes of green ammonia under the SIGHT scheme.

India continues to build on momentum perceived as stimulated by its government’s commitment to green hydrogen and its derivatives.

Respondents in the Hydrogen Council’s recent Global Hydrogen Compass 2026 report identified the country as having the second greatest momentum in the space, globally. Surpassed only by China, 92% of CEOs surveyed perceived India as “steady or accelerating.”
