Patna: The proposed Bihar Green Hydrogen Policy-2026 could attract investment worth Rs16,000 crore and generate nearly 12,000 employment opportunities in the state, an official said after a high-level review meeting chaired by chief minister Samrat Choudhary here on Monday.Choudhary held detailed deliberations on the draft policy at the ‘Sankalp’ auditorium in Lok Sevak Awas, and issued directions to officials for accelerating Bihar’s entry into the green hydrogen sector. Officials of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited made a presentation on the creation of a green hydrogen economy in Bihar, covering targets, incentives, implementation measures and the infrastructure needed to support production and use.During the meeting, Choudhary directed officials to promote green hydrogen production, consumption and investment across the state and to develop the required infrastructure. He asked power sector officials to coordinate with Barauni Refinery and Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Limited (HURL) to examine the feasibility of setting up hydrogen plants in other parts of Bihar.Choudhary also instructed officials to prepare a further action plan in consultation with related industries and institutions, keeping in view the state’s potential for green hydrogen production and utilisation.The CM said Bihar should work in alignment with National Green Hydrogen Mission-2030 to encourage clean energy, green technology and sustainable development. He directed that efforts to promote production and use of green hydrogen should be linked with the national targets so that Bihar can benefit from emerging opportunities in the sector.The meeting also reviewed National Green Hydrogen Mission’s targets up to 2030, the scope for production and use of green hydrogen in Bihar, and key provisions of the proposed state policy. The national mission aims to develop at least 5 million metric tonnes of annual green hydrogen production capacity in the country by 2030.Bihar energy minister Shailesh Kumar aka Bulo Mandal and energy department secretary Ajay Yadav were present at the review meeting, along with senior officials from the power sector.
