South African President Cyril Ramaphosa introduced six priority green hydrogen initiatives through the national programme, marking a transition from planning toward implementation. Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa delivered the address at the African Green Hydrogen Summit in Cape Town.
Phelan Green Group leads the portfolio with its Saldanha Bay sustainable aviation fuel project, reaching a final investment decision backed by a $100 million equity commitment and an offtake agreement. Construction begins in the first quarter of 2027, with initial exports scheduled for the first quarter of 2029.
The remaining five developments include the Coega Green Ammonia Project, Saldanha Hydrogen Direct Reduced Iron Project, Prieska Power Reserve, Green e-Fuels Producers Green Methanol Corridor, and Green Hydrogen Solutions Project, driving continental industrial integration.
