The Spanish energy company Iberdrola had secured total incentives of €388.7 million, to be paid out over ten years based on the kilograms of hydrogen produced, in relation to the two projects NOON II and ODIN (which involved 80 and 140 MW of electrolysis), as part of of the second Spanish auction conducted using the ‘auction-as-a-service’ mechanism’ made available by the European Hydrogen Bank, through which a total of 440 million had been allocated to three projects (the third being QUIXOTGEN by Doña Urraca Energy).
Iberdrola, however, has decided not to use these resources, as can be seen from the official documentation published on the IDAE website, the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, which reports to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
At the same time, two Repsol projects were selected from the ‘reserve’ list: the 12.27 MW Puertollano Hydrogen Network and the 50 MW Atlas project.
Both initiatives aim to produce green hydrogen for use at Repsol’s refineries in Puertollano and A Coruña, respectively, to replace the grey H₂ traditionally used in the industrial process.
The Puertollano Hydrogen Network project could receive €49.8 million, with a subsidy of €2.25 per kilogram of hydrogen produced, whilst the Atlas project is set to receive €133.4 million, with a subsidy of €2.20 per kilogram.
