Austrian refiner OMV will continue to develop and deliver its 140MW green hydrogen facility in Bruck an der Leitha as the “sole project owner” after UAE renewables major Masdar left the development.
OMV told H2 View that the plant remains under construction, with its previous end of 2027 commissioning schedule still set to go ahead.
The split follows the pair lining up a joint venture (JV) in 2025 in which Masdar held a 49% stake and sought to contribute its commercial and financial strength.
OMV told H2 View the two companies “mutually agreed” not to proceed with the planned equity participation.
The firm did not comment as to whether Madar’s departure would affect project financing.
Early this year, OMV received €123m ($143.7m) in funding from Austria’s state-owned promotional bank under the country’s green hydrogen project subsidy auction, and in July it secured a €450m ($515m) loan from the European Investment Bank.
Expected to displace grey hydrogen in OMV’s Schwechat refinery, the facility will produce up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year using Siemens Energy PEM electrolysers and deliver it via an OMV built 22km pipeline.
The 140MW project came after OMV commissioned a 10MW green hydrogen plant at the Schwechat refinery in early 2025, after the company pivoted away from operating hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
