Michigan Governor Funds Clean Transportation Projects
Ten projects will receive approximately $1.5 million to test hydrogen, electric vehicle and mobility technologies.
Michigan has awarded $1.5 million to 10 projects aimed at advancing clean energy, transportation and infrastructure technologies through real-world testing and deployment.
The funding, announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, was awarded through the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform.
Projects receiving grants include hydrogen production and fueling systems, electric vehicle charging, autonomous technology, water infrastructure inspection and other emerging mobility applications.
Among the largest awards, Detroit Hydrogen Exchange will receive $250,000 to convert and deploy a hydrogen fuel cell Class 8 refuse truck under municipal operating conditions. Neology will receive $250,000 to establish a hydrogen production and refueling site in Detroit for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
AmHyTech was awarded $115,000 to test a modular ammonia-to-hydrogen refueling station, while OpenRoad Technologies will receive $135,000 to validate a battery-buffered Level 3 EV charging system designed for locations with electrical capacity constraints.
The funding also includes $75,000 for Motmot to conduct underground water infrastructure inspections using an underwater robotics platform in several Michigan communities.
Other projects involve traffic signal optimization, autonomous vehicle safety monitoring, accessible transportation technology and a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric snow blower for airport operations.
The grants are being distributed through the program’s Real-World Deployment Grants and Test Site Grants, which are intended to help companies test technologies and move projects from pilot programs toward commercial deployment.
The Michigan Mobility Funding Platform is operated by the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (OFME) in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
