OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) and Asyad Group have formalised an offtake term sheet aimed at investigating green hydrogen applications for transport in Oman, effectively bridging the nation’s nascent hydrogen sector with sustainable mobility initiatives.

As part of this arrangement, Asyad is set to assess the viability of utilising green hydrogen generated via OQAE’s Duqm-based deployment project. This effort is intended to foster hydrogen-fuelled transport and establish the building blocks for a local hydrogen mobility network.

Salim Al Kamyani, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy, remarked that Oman’s hydrogen trajectory is now shifting from theoretical promise to tangible deployment. He described the collaboration with Asyad as a pivotal move that ties hydrogen output to a concrete transport scenario, offering a chance to gain expertise throughout the entire supply chain. Al Kamyani stressed that pilot initiatives like this are vital for cultivating the skills, infrastructure, and investor trust necessary to expand the hydrogen sector. He added that partnering with entities such as Asyad enables hands-on testing of technologies and commercial approaches in operational settings, fostering local expertise and clarifying the prerequisites for wider uptake.

Al Kamyani further noted that Oman holds considerable promise as a cost-effective producer and exporter of renewable energy and green hydrogen. He underscored that nurturing a robust domestic market is essential for a durable hydrogen economy, with the company aiming to facilitate conditions where the nation’s hydrogen prospects can evolve into competitive ventures, novel industries, and lasting national benefits.

Ahmed Al Bulushi, CEO of Asyad Drydock & Infrastructure Services, stated that cutting transport emissions demands scalable, practical answers supported by a dependable energy framework. He indicated that the partnership with OQAE offers a pathway to examine green hydrogen within this shift and to channel Oman’s developing hydrogen strengths into logistics and transport applications. Al Bulushi reiterated Asyad’s dedication to advancing greener logistics offerings and reinforcing Oman’s status as a key global logistics node. Through engagement in hydrogen mobility projects, the firm seeks to accumulate operational know-how, alliances, and infrastructure essential for future low-carbon transport across the Sultanate.

OQAE’s undertaking represents its inaugural comprehensive green hydrogen deployment effort, aimed at honing competencies in renewable power integration, hydrogen generation, operations, certification, handling, and marketing. The facility is slated to generate as much as 400 kilograms of green hydrogen per day, with scope for growth via a specialised refuelling station in Duqm.

Situated within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, the project is designed to link renewable energy sources, hydrogen output, and final consumption within an industrial and logistical setting. This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the nation’s net-zero objectives, while delivering hands-on insights into safety, certification, infrastructure, and market demand.

This term sheet signifies a further phase in the ongoing collaboration between OQAE and Asyad, as they progress toward a deployment blueprint and eventual large-scale hydrogen mobility ventures.
