Electrolyser manufacturer Sunfire has dispatched 20 pressurised alkaline electrolyser stacks to German energy firm RWE’s 300MW GetH2 Nukleus project in Lingen.
Travelling 340km by barge, the stacks will be used in Sunfire systems that will make up one-third of the plant’s nameplate capacity.
GetH2 will deliver hydrogen via a 120km pipeline operated by German transmission system operators to regional industry, including an Evonik chemical facility in Marl.
Earlier this month, the first 100MW of ITM Power PEM went online at the plant, with green hydrogen supplied to Evonik for the first time.
One of Europe’s largest planned plants, it is backed by €619m ($712) in government and state funding and is set to bring 200MW online this year before scaling to 300MW by 2027. Its full-scale capacity is billed at 49,000 tonnes per year.
From 2030, RWE will also begin supplying 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year to oil and gas firm TotalEnergies’ refinery in Leuna under a 15-year offtake agreement.
Commissioning of the plant began in late 2025 following final investment decision the year prior.
In May, Sunfire revealed plans to build a new pilot solid oxide electrolysis facility at chemical major BASF’s facility in Schwarzheide, Germany.
