India’s NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) has tendered for a 10 million litre per day water demineralisation plant to supply its planned 7GW green hydrogen-based chemicals hub in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh.
NGEL, the green energy branch of India’s largest energy producer NTPC, aims to produce 2.5 million tonnes per year of hydrogen-based chemicals at the plant, including ammonia, methanol, sustainable aviation fuel, and green urea.
It could feature up to 7.5GW of auxiliary electrical infrastructure to enable this.
If built, it would be the largest green hydrogen project globally.
The successful applicant must demonstrate capability in delivering large-scale industrial or water projects and evidence sufficient turnover, profitability, and fiscal capacity.
They will be responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the water process plant. Bidders must pay a ₹2 crore ($210,000) deposit to bid. Submissions close on 2 September.
The tender follows NGEL’s September 2025 call for proposals to green chemical developers, under which it began to consider arrangements for the facility’s land, water supply, and biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2).
India has been ramping up demand for green molecules through its strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, which has awarded tenders to fertiliser plants across the country for 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission eyes an annual domestic production of five million tonnes of green hydrogen. The country has also strengthened its position as a leading green molecule exporter with projects signing large-scale supply agreements with European and Asian majors.
Uniper and RWE will both offtake green ammonia from Indian supplier AM Green’s 1.5 million-tonne-per-year Kakinada facility.
Acme recently signed deals with Japanese industrials IHI and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical to ship thousands of tonnes of green ammonia and methanol.
