The PosHYdon
pilot has successfully produced green hydrogen on the operational Q13a-A
platform in the Dutch North Sea.
Operated by Eni
Energy Netherlands, the fully electrified platform is located approximately
13km off Scheveningen. Seawater is converted into demineralised water on
the platform before being transformed into hydrogen through electrolysis
using electricity supplied by offshore wind energy.
The initial test
period will focus on achieving stable system operation. Subsequent testing
will assess how effectively the electrolyser responds to fluctuations in
offshore wind generation and will collect data concerning efficiency, maintenance
requirements, costs and operational performance in a marine environment.
PosHYdon states
that it is the first project to combine offshore wind energy, offshore
hydrogen production and natural gas production at sea. Findings from the
pilot will be analysed during August and September before being shared
with the hydrogen sector during autumn 2026.
