MahaGenco REL Invites EOIs From Industrial Buyers For Green Hydrogen And Green Ammonia Offtake From Uran Project

MahaGenco Renewable Energy Limited (MahaGenco REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MahaGenco), has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from potential buyers for the purchase of Green Hydrogen (GH2) and Green Ammonia (GA) from its upcoming production facility at Uran in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The EOI, numbered MREL/2026-27/GH2 Offtaker/EOI/06, was officially issued on July 29, 2026, marking another step toward building a market for green hydrogen in the state.

The proposed facility will be developed in phases. During the first phase, the plant is expected to produce around 2 kilotons per annum (kTPA) of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia. The project has been planned with future expansion in mind, with the capacity expected to increase gradually to around 50 kTPA. In addition to Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia, the facility will also produce industrial-grade oxygen as a valuable by-product for industrial applications.

According to the EOI document, products will be supplied on an Ex-Works basis from the Uran plant, meaning buyers will be responsible for transportation after collecting the products from the facility. MahaGenco REL has specified a minimum offtake requirement of 0.2 kTPA for each applicant.

The company has identified several major industrial clusters as priority regions for distribution because of their proximity to the production site. These include the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPT/Nhava Sheva), Trombay, Taloja MIDC, Trans Thane Creek including Rabale and Turbhe, Patalganga, Dombivli-Kalyan, and the Thal-Mahad-Roha industrial belt. However, the company has clarified that organizations located outside these regions are also encouraged to participate in the EOI process.

MahaGenco REL is seeking interest from a wide range of industries that can utilize Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia. Eligible participants include petroleum refineries, fertilizer manufacturers, steel producers, city gas distribution companies, industrial gas suppliers, specialty chemical manufacturers, mobility and fuel-cell operators, registered commercial traders, and consignment agents. The company aims to establish long-term commercial partnerships that will support the growth of India’s green hydrogen economy.

The EOI schedule outlines several important dates for interested applicants. The document became available on July 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Applicants may submit queries and seek clarifications until August 18, 2026, by 6:00 PM. To address stakeholder questions, MahaGenco REL will organize an online pre-application clarification meeting on August 19, 2026, at 11:30 AM.

The final date for submitting EOI applications is August 31, 2026, by 5:00 PM. Interested organizations must submit both a soft copy of their application through email and a hard copy in a sealed envelope to the Office of the Chief General Manager at MahaGenco REL’s corporate office, Prakashgad, Bandra (East), Mumbai. The complete EOI document and related information are available on the company’s official website.

The initiative reflects MahaGenco REL’s efforts to create a reliable supply chain for Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia while encouraging industrial adoption of clean energy solutions. It also supports the objectives of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Maharashtra State Green Hydrogen Policy by promoting low-carbon fuels and helping industries reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through this EOI, the company aims to build a strong network of long-term buyers and accelerate the development of a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem across Maharashtra and beyond.
