Thyssenkrupp nucera and BHEL Sign Strategic Collaboration for Alkaline Electrolyzer Localization in India - News and Statistics

Thyssenkrupp nucera AG & Co. KGaA and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. have entered into a Strategic Collaboration Agreement focused on manufacturing alkaline water electrolyzers for green hydrogen projects in India, according to a source announcement. The agreement was signed at BHEL’s Corporate Office in New Delhi.

Under the terms of the deal, the two companies will work together on the phased localization of alkaline electrolyzer module fabrication within India. The collaboration aims to establish local manufacturing capabilities, jointly participate in tendering processes, and support the implementation of green hydrogen projects in the Indian market.

Kiran Joseph, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera India, indicated that India represents one of the most important growth markets for the company. He noted that scaling green hydrogen in India requires solutions that are reliable, scalable, and aligned with the country’s industrial ambitions, and that the collaboration with BHEL underscores the company’s long-term commitment to building a robust green hydrogen market in India.

BHEL is described as one of India’s leading state-owned engineering and manufacturing companies, with decades of experience across power generation, transmission, renewables, oil and gas, transportation, aerospace, and defense. The company’s engineering capabilities, extensive manufacturing network, and centers of excellence across the country are seen as a strong foundation for the strategic collaboration.

For thyssenkrupp nucera, the agreement further anchors its technology and business interests in India. Building on its global track record and proven electrolysis technology, the company is positioned to support the reliable deployment of green hydrogen projects across the country.

The collaboration with BHEL follows a series of recent initiatives by thyssenkrupp nucera in India. Earlier this year, the company launched a cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit to support the development of green hydrogen and Power-to-X markets in India. Shortly after that, thyssenkrupp nucera was awarded a FEED study for a 260-megawatt green hydrogen project by Indian developer Juno Joule. These steps collectively reflect the company’s ambition to play a leading role in shaping India’s emerging green hydrogen economy.
