Hy2gen Nordic Albatros Project Selected for European Hydrogen Bank Support in Denmark - News and Statistics

Hy2gen Nordic AS, a subsidiary of global renewable hydrogen producer Hy2gen, announced on 24 June 2026 that its Albatros project has been chosen for backing by the European Hydrogen Bank. The planned 100 MW facility in Kasso, Denmark, aims to provide renewable hydrogen to industrial clients throughout Europe, aiding industrial decarbonization, bolstering Europe’s energy autonomy, and fostering a competitive renewable hydrogen market.

Albatros was chosen via the European Hydrogen Bank’s competitive auction, with a bid of EUR0.97 per kilogram of renewable hydrogen. It secured a premium of EUR0.97 per kilogram for its initial decade of operation, ranking among the most competitive offers in this auction round. This premium is intended to bridge the cost difference between renewable hydrogen and conventional fuels, facilitating Europe’s shift to a low-carbon industrial economy.

Over ten years, Albatros is projected to generate roughly 144,000 tons of renewable hydrogen, preventing an estimated 986,000 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions, and aiding decarbonization in hard-to-abate sectors. Situated in a premier Danish renewable energy zone, Albatros will link to the Danish-German Hydrogen Backbone, allowing efficient hydrogen transport to industrial hubs in Germany and the wider European network. This cross-border link also advances strategic goals: by connecting Danish renewable resources with European industrial needs, Albatros enhances Europe’s energy independence and cuts reliance on fossil fuel imports.

Hege Okland, Managing Director of Hy2gen Nordic AS, stated that Albatros is well-suited to meet rising German demand for renewable hydrogen. She noted that with Aabenraa as a modern industrial center and European Hydrogen Bank support, the company can supply renewable hydrogen to German industrial users at minimal cost, aiding their compliance with EU renewable hydrogen mandates. She expressed pride in investing and collaborating with Aabenraa Municipality, supporting local development, and anticipation of becoming a lasting partner in the Kasso community.

Cyril Dufau-Sansot, CEO of Hy2gen AG, remarked that as Europe pursues industrial decarbonization and energy resilience, projects like Albatros will grow in importance. He said that by tying Danish renewable energy to European industrial demand, Albatros expands Hy2gen’s portfolio and underscores its dedication to providing the renewable molecules essential for the energy transition.

Albatros is anticipated to generate up to 500 construction jobs and roughly 30-40 permanent operational roles, along with opportunities for local suppliers, contractors, and service providers. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, with operations starting in 2031. In the near term, Hy2gen will advance technical development, permitting, and ongoing discussions with the municipality and local stakeholders.
