Reopening Europe’s green hydrogen rules ‘not a good idea,’ Air Products warns

Reopening Europe’s green hydrogen production rules is “not a good idea,” Air Products’ head of Europe has warned, urging the bloc for stability.

Ivo Bols outlined the need for “enforceable rules” at the World Hydrogen Summit, taking aim at the European Commission’s plans to review its renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) rules two years earlier than planned.

“Reopening these rules, reopening these certifications is not a good idea if we talk about accelerating,” he warned.

It comes as Air Products’ one-third-owned 2.2GW Neom Green Hydrogen project heads towards completion and begins producing molecules in early 2027.
