Green Industries Council aims for broader industrial development strategy, replaces Green Hydrogen Council – Top Story 1

The Cabinet has approved the establishment of a new Green Industries Council, replacing the former Green Hydrogen Council after its term ended in February 2025.

The announcement was made by information and communication technology minister Emma Theofelus during a Cabinet briefing on Monday.

According to Theofelus, the decision formed part of the 12th and 13th Cabinet meetings, held on 28 April and 6 May, under the chairpersonship of president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

“The new Green Industries Council will oversee and guide Namibia’s broader green industrialisation agenda, with focus on policy coordination, institutional alignment and investment priorities aimed at accelerating industrialisation, economic diversification and job creation,” Theofelus said.

She noted that the new body marks a shift from the narrower green hydrogen focus towards a broader industrial development strategy aimed at positioning Namibia to benefit from emerging green industries.

The council will be chaired by the director general of the National Planning Commission.

Its members will include the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, the Ministry of Urban and Rura
