Uzbekistan’s bn project tests region’s leap into industrial-scale hydrogen fuels | Hydrogen News

A $6bn green hydrogen-based fuels project approved in Uzbekistan is testing whether Central Asia can leap from the sidelines of hydrogen straight into industrial-scale production.

In early April, the Khorezm region government approved Australian-headquartered Allied Biofuels’ (ABF) 400,000-tonne-per-year sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), e-SAF, and green diesel project.

It plans to install 4.45GW of renewables, 1.6GW of battery energy storage, and 2.4GW of Plug Power electrolysers. It’s an enormous step up in scale for a country that currently has just 20MW of installed electrolyser capacity.
