EU hydrogen auction oversubscribed sixfold as RFNBO focus persists | Policy

Electrolytic hydrogen projects bidding in the third European Hydrogen Bank auction remain overwhelmingly focused on producing fuels that comply with renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) rules.

The European Commission said the third auction attracted 58 bids requesting €8.4bn ($9.7bn) – around six times the €1.3bn ($1.5bn) budget.

The funding call, opened in December, represents around 4.3GW of electrolyser capacity.

The scheme will offer fixed-premium payments per kilogramme of hydrogen produced, helping to bridge the cost gap with fossil fuels.
