Gujarat Green Hydrogen Policy 2025 and 2035 targets discussed

The Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) held a seminar on the ‘Gujarat Green Hydrogen Policy 2025’ on January 31, focusing on the state’s goal to produce 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen by 2035 and to ensure a pollution-free future. The event, organised at Auro University in Surat, included a panel discussion featuring experts and industrialists who addressed key policy objectives.

These objectives comprise achieving nearly 30 gigawatts (GW) of electrolyser capacity, 75 GW of renewable energy capacity, generating direct and indirect green jobs, promoting green hydrogen as an alternative to natural gas, and reducing carbon emissions by 5 MMTPA in Gujarat, according to a Gujarat government statement.

On the second day of VGRC, the seminar provided guidance on infrastructure and regulatory support under the Green Hydrogen Policy, financial incentives for biomass-based and electrolysis-based projects, and the development of green hydrogen hubs. Discussions also covered research and development, technological progress, human resource capacity, skill development, and the policy’s three-tier implementation framework.

Panel participants included Senior Program Leader Deepak Yadav, Siddharth Gupta of L&T, Gaurav Agnihotri of Waaree Group, Ajay Das of Prozeal Green Energy Ltd., and Divyesh Desai, Advisor at IIM Ahmedabad.

Additionally, the summit hosted a seminar titled ‘Enabling Gujarat’s Circular Transition: Policies, Partnerships and Pathways’, attended by Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia and Minister of State Pravin Mali. Minister Modhwadia stated, “In changing times, waste is no longer a problem but a ‘resource material’.” He further remarked that household waste is increasingly used as a source for energy generation and emphasised that the state government is pursuing a circular economy to foster economic prosperity alongside environmental conservation.

During the panel discussion, industrialists and experts considered strategies for balancing environmental protection with industrial development.
