GH2 Solar has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mormugao Port Authority to explore the development of a green hydrogen hub at the port, marking a strategic step in India’s efforts to build port-led clean energy infrastructure under its emerging hydrogen economy framework.

The collaboration is aimed at assessing the feasibility of establishing integrated green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution infrastructure at the port, positioning it as a potential gateway for future hydrogen-based industrial applications and export opportunities.

From an industry perspective, the partnership reflects the growing strategic importance of ports in India’s green hydrogen roadmap. As hydrogen production scales globally, ports are increasingly becoming critical infrastructure nodes due to their ability to combine renewable energy access, industrial connectivity, storage capability, and maritime export logistics into a single ecosystem.

For Mormugao Port Authority, the initiative signals a broader transition beyond conventional cargo operations toward clean energy infrastructure development. Located on India’s western coastline, the port holds strategic significance for future green hydrogen exports and marine fuel decarbonisation, particularly as global demand for low-carbon fuels continues to rise.

The MoU also strengthens GH2 Solar’s positioning in the green hydrogen segment, expanding its portfolio beyond solar energy into integrated clean fuel solutions. The company has been actively developing hydrogen-focused projects and demonstration systems, indicating its broader strategy to participate in India’s evolving hydrogen value chain.

Industry experts note that port-based hydrogen hubs could play a central role in supporting multiple commercial applications, including green ammonia production, industrial fuel substitution, shipping decarbonisation, and export-oriented clean fuel supply chains.

The partnership aligns with India’s larger clean energy ambitions under the national green hydrogen ecosystem, where ports are expected to emerge as critical enablers for scaling production and building international trade corridors for hydrogen and its derivatives.

While the MoU establishes the strategic framework for collaboration, key commercial details such as production capacity, investment commitments, electrolyser deployment, renewable power sourcing, and project timelines are yet to be disclosed.

The development adds to the growing momentum of hydrogen infrastructure investments across India’s port sector, reinforcing the role of maritime infrastructure in accelerating the country’s clean energy transition and strengthening its position in the global green hydrogen economy.
