NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), has entered into a Green Ammonia Purchase Agreement (GAPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). The agreement, signed on March 30, 2026, marks a significant development under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Under the terms of the agreement, NTPC REL will supply 70,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia to Krishna Phoschem Limited, located in Meghnagar, Madhya Pradesh. SECI will act as the intermediary procurer, facilitating the supply chain under the government-backed initiative.
The project represents a key milestone in NGEL’s expanding portfolio of green hydrogen and green ammonia initiatives. It underscores the company’s strategic focus on developing sustainable fuel alternatives that can reduce carbon emissions across industrial sectors. Green ammonia, produced using renewable energy sources, is increasingly being recognized as a critical enabler in decarbonizing industries such as fertilizers, shipping, and power generation.
By committing to large-scale production and supply, NTPC REL is positioning itself as a leading player in India’s emerging green hydrogen economy. The agreement also highlights the role of public-private collaboration in accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions.
The SIGHT scheme, part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aims to promote domestic manufacturing, reduce import dependency, and establish India as a global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives. This agreement aligns with those objectives by ensuring long-term demand and supply stability for green ammonia.
Officials noted that the partnership not only strengthens NGEL’s renewable energy portfolio but also contributes directly to India’s broader climate commitments. As industries transition toward low-carbon alternatives, such agreements are expected to play a pivotal role in scaling up green fuel production and infrastructure.
