The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has invited bids for a major transmission line project in Andhra Pradesh, marking an important step toward strengthening renewable energy infrastructure in South India. The project is designed to support upcoming Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia developments, especially in the Vizag region, which is emerging as a key hub for clean energy investments.
The tender covers the development of a high-voltage transmission system under the package titled Transmission Line Package TL05. The scope of work includes the construction of the Khammam-II Pendurthi Vizag 765 kV Double Circuit transmission line. This segment, known as Part-II, forms part of a larger network aimed at enabling Phase-I of the proposed Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects in the Vizag area.
The transmission line will play a crucial role in carrying large volumes of electricity over long distances with minimal losses. With a voltage level of 765 kV, the infrastructure is expected to provide a strong and reliable backbone for power evacuation. This is particularly important for energy-intensive industries such as Green Hydrogen production, which require a stable and high-capacity power supply. By connecting renewable energy sources to industrial zones, the project will help accelerate the shift toward cleaner fuels and reduce dependence on fossil energy.
The project is being implemented through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. This method ensures a transparent and competitive bidding process, allowing developers to offer cost-effective solutions. It also aligns with the government’s broader strategy of promoting efficiency and private sector participation in large-scale transmission projects.
According to the tender details, the bidding process started on March 23, 2026. Interested bidders can download the tender documents until April 4, 2026. The submission of bids will be carried out online through the PRANIT portal, with the deadline set for April 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The technical bids will be opened on the same day at 11:30 AM, ensuring a quick evaluation process.
The tender is listed under the “Works” category and is open for participation from eligible contractors with experience in high-voltage transmission projects. While the tender value is currently indicated as zero, this is a standard practice in TBCB-based projects where the final value is determined through competitive bidding. The tender fee has been set at INR 25,000, and the Earnest Money Deposit requirement is mentioned as zero, although bidders are advised to check the detailed conditions in the official documents.
The procurement process is being managed from POWERGRID’s corporate office in Gurgaon. Overall, the project highlights a strategic push to build infrastructure that supports India’s clean energy goals. Once completed, the transmission line will significantly boost the ability of the Vizag region to handle large-scale renewable energy and position it as a key center for Green Hydrogen production.
