Low green hydrogen tax incentive uptake could benefit Australian federal budget


Australia’s faltering green hydrogen ambitions could save the federal budget billions of dollars over the next decade due to lower uptake of the Albanese government’s signature production tax incentive.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made the $6.7 billion hydrogen incentive a centrepiece of his 2024-25 budget, but since then a series of projects have been abandoned or put on indefinite hold due to high production costs and a lack of buyers.
