ACME to Set Up 200 KTPA Green Methanol Facility in Odisha


ACME Group announced plans to establish a 200 kilotonne per annum (KTPA) green methanol manufacturing facility in Odisha, reinforcing its push into green fuels. The project will be developed in Kendrapada district through its subsidiary, ACME Akshya Energy Pvt Ltd.

Project to Be Developed with IPICOL

The green methanol facility forms part of ACME’s expanding green hydrogen portfolio and will be developed in partnership with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL). According to the company, Odisha offers a strong combination of renewable energy availability, port-led logistics advantages, and access to biogenic feedstock, making it a strategic manufacturing hub. As a result, ACME has positioned the state as a cornerstone of its long-term green fuels strategy.

Odisha Offers Cost-Competitive Advantage

Highlighting the state’s policy and infrastructure support, Anil Taparia, Chief Operating Officer, Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Business Unit at ACME Group, said Odisha provides an enabling environment for green methanol production at globally competitive costs. He pointed to
investor-friendly industrial policies and access to low-cost green power as key factors supporting the commercial viability of the project.

Expanding Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Footprint

Beyond green methanol, ACME Group is rapidly scaling up its green hydrogen and ammonia presence in Odisha. The company is currently developing one of India’s largest green ammonia facilities in Gopalpur through a joint venture with Japan-based IHI Corporation. In parallel, ACME is setting up a 2,200 metric ton per day green ammonia plant in Paradip. The project follows the award of six letters of award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under the SIGHT Scheme, Mode-2A, Tranche-I. Under the long-term offtake agreements, ACME will supply 370,000 metric tonne per year of green ammonia to Indian fertiliser companies for a period of 10 years.

Green Methanol Demand Set to Surge

Meanwhile, global demand for green methanol is gaining momentum. The market is projected to reach an operational capacity of 6–12 million tonne per annum by 2030, driven largely by shipping decarbonisation efforts.
