CWP Global CEO Joins MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 Amid Green Hydrogen Drive

Mike Scholey, CEO of clean energy company CWP Global, will speak at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 Conference and Exhibition – taking place in Dakar from December 9–10, with a pre-conference day on December 8. Scholey’s participation reflects the company’s commitment to advancing energy projects in the region, with a focus on green hydrogen and renewable energy.

Organized under the patronage of H.E. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, the event will unite policymakers, investors and stakeholders under the theme Energy, Petroleum and Mining in Africa: Synergy for Inclusive Economic Development. As one of the region’s most influential platforms, the gathering will highlight new opportunities for cross-sector growth in the MSGBC region.

Scholey’s participation carries particular importance for Mauritania and the wider MSGBC region. CWP Global is spearheading the AMAN project, one of the world’s largest planned green hydrogen developments, with an estimated 30 GW of combined wind and solar capacity. Located in northern Mauritania, the project aims to produce up to 1.7 million tons of hydrogen and around 10 million tons of green ammonia annually. Currently in the pre-FEED stage, CWP Global has completed geological, hydrogeological and marine reconnaissance studies, while advancing resource measurement campaigns. Once operational – expected toward the end of the decade – AMAN has the potential to make Mauritania a leading supplier of green fuels to international markets.

Mauritania’s natural endowments underscore the significance of this development. With average solar irradiation levels exceeding 2,200 kWh/m² per year and coastal wind speeds above 9 m/s, the country ranks among the best globally for renewable energy generation. Studies indicate solar power yields of 275–329 GWh per km² annually in key regions, and wind power potential of up to 108 GWh per km² along the Atlantic coast.

These resources, coupled with direct access to seawater for electrolysis and proximity to European demand centers, make Mauritania a competitive hub for large-scale hydrogen production. Alongside CWP Global’s AMAN development, other projects such as Chariot and TotalEnergies’ 10 GW Nour development are reinforcing the country’s role as a pioneer in Africa’s green hydrogen economy. As such, Scholey’s participation at MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 is expected to unlock new opportunities for collaboration as the region pursues accelerated energy development.

“CWP Global’s AMAN project reflects the scale of opportunity that Mauritania brings to the global energy transition. By featuring stakeholders across oil, gas, mining and renewables, this year’s MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power event will highlight how the MSGBC region can harness its diverse resources to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” stated Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director at Energy Capital & Power.
