Industry experts are divided over the role of hydrogen blending, raising questions over whether it’s a pragmatic enabler of early investment or a costly distraction from dedicated infrastructure.
Last month, the UK government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) launched a consultation to assess the benefits and risks of allowing up to 2% hydrogen blending into the National Transmission System (NTS).
And while DESNZ sees blending as an “offtaker of last resort” to help manage grid constraints and derisk hydrogen investment, Lhyfe’s Boris Davis said during a H2 View webinar that the strategy offers clear short-term value.
