Iraq has initiated a study to assess the potential for green hydrogen production as part of its clean energy strategy.
The industry ministry is undertaking the study in collaboration with the electricity and oil ministry and the National Investment Commission, with private sector participation in the project, state-run Iraq News Agency reported.
In addition, the government is evaluating opportunities to establish low-emission cement production facilities.
These initiatives are part of Iraq’s national energy plan aimed at cutting emissions through improved energy efficiency and expanded use of renewable sources, particularly solar energy, in the industrial sector.

The ministry said its affiliated companies are prepared to implement solar power projects as the government targets generating 12 gigawatts of solar power by 2030, the report said.
The country is developing a solar power project in the central desert region as part of efforts to ease chronic electricity shortages worsened by a decline in Iranian gas imports.
The new plant will generate 300 megawatts of power from half a million solar panels, of which nearly 40,000 have been constructed.
The hydrogen rainbow
