A landmark partnership between JK Srivastava Group and Hynfra, a Polish company, has resulted in the formation of a joint venture called JK Srivastava Hynfra (JKSH). The venture has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NREDCAP, the renewable energy agency of Andhra Pradesh, to establish a cutting-edge green hydrogen and ammonia hub near the Visakhapatnam port. The project will focus on producing up to 1 million tons of green ammonia annually and installing a 3 GW renewable energy capacity to power the facility.
The total investment in the ambitious project is estimated at INR 35,000 crore (approximately $4 billion), with operations slated to commence in early 2029. The entire facility will be powered by renewable sources, including solar and wind energy, with additional support from battery storage and advanced energy management systems to ensure reliability and efficiency.
A significant portion of the green ammonia produced will be exported to countries like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. These nations will use the ammonia to decarbonize their power generation by co-firing it with coal. The remaining production will be used across various sectors within India, including fertilizers, power generation, transportation, and digital infrastructure, furthering the country’s energy transition.
JK Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of JKSH, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This agreement with the Government of Andhra Pradesh marks the beginning of what will be one of the largest green ammonia projects in the Asia-Pacific region. By leveraging scalable, clean energy technologies, this initiative will position India as a key supplier of sustainable energy carriers to the global market.”
Tomoho Umeda, a Board Member of JKSH and President of Hynfra, expressed confidence in the project’s potential, emphasizing the fusion of over a century of experience in chemical synthesis with India’s ambitious energy goals. “This project addresses urgent global market needs while adhering to the highest international standards, including RFNBO certification for green hydrogen and its derivatives,” he said.
In addition to its production capabilities, the project will play a central role in Andhra Pradesh’s Green Hydrogen Valley, a planned integrated cluster for the production, storage, transport, and export of renewable hydrogen. This ambitious initiative will help establish the region as a hub for the next generation of clean energy solutions.
The project is a significant step toward achieving India’s energy transition goals while addressing global demands for cleaner, sustainable energy carriers. By focusing on green hydrogen and ammonia, the collaboration aims to reduce the carbon footprint of power generation and other industries, helping countries worldwide meet their climate objectives.
