15 projects to deliver 2.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen and cut 15 million tonnes of CO₂.
The European Commission has awarded €992 million in public funding to 15 renewable hydrogen projects across five countries in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Financed by the Innovation Fund, these projects will produce 2.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen over ten years, reducing 15 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions in sectors like transport, chemicals, methanol, and ammonia production.
Most projects will receive fixed premiums of €0.20 to €0.60 per kilogramme, with subsidies ranging from €8 million to €246 million over a decade. For the first time, €96.7 million was earmarked for maritime hydrogen applications, supporting three projects serving bunkering activities.
In addition, Spain, Lithuania, and Austria will allocate up to €836 million in national funding via the EU’s ‘Auctions-as-a-Service’ model, helping more eligible projects access support.
Projects must sign grant agreements by late 2025, reach financial close within 2.5 years, and start production within five years. A third hydrogen auction with up to €1 billion in funding is planned for the end of 2025.
These efforts support the EU’s goal of producing 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030, reducing fossil fuel reliance and advancing industrial decarbonisation.
